I started this website to bring order to the confusion I started having following the protests in Lebanon in October 2019. The economic system collapsed, and the Lebanese woke up to the hard reality of seeing their savings blocked in the banks. This was accompanied by a political deadlock with the multiple powers in office accusing each other of corruption and for being the cause of the crisis. What follows is the social crisis with poverty levels and migration increasing to unprecedented proportions.
Compounded is the effect of the regional tensions and their influence on the internal dynamics.
With such problems, Lebanese are lost, and I am one of them.
I came back after 25 years working in the Gulf States and Europe and pursued postgraduate studies at Oxford, London Business School, and Bangor University.
The question I always had is what I can do to help Lebanon now? After working with a few NGOs to develop their capacity, I found that the real problem is that I do not know what is happening. So, I set my mind to investigate the current situation by turning to the public figures I cross in the media. I could see the tension rising as I realized I am biased in my views, judging others without really doing the homework of properly finding out.
So the idea of the site came about to collect information and mainly through structured interviews. Social media’s problem is that you have to sift through the threads to learn bits and pieces. I was interested in finding out what these candidates stand in terms of vision and values and what kind of programs they think would take Lebanon out of its problems.
